Join Sona Gevorkyan and learn the process of 3D Printing with clay! In this masterclass, participants will learn the basics of 3D software and (2) 3D printers, produce a work/design of their choice and print it themselves to get familiar with the equipment and process. This workshop is a great way to add another tool to your "how you work with clay" tool belt. Key techniques and processes will be taught so participants can improve their outcomes with Ceramic 3D Printing. All skill levels are welcome to attend. Participants may choose to attend the first weekend, the second weekend, or all (4) sessions. We highly recommend you attend all (4) sessions if you are not familiar with the 3D printing software, Rhino and Clayon.
There will be two (2) 3D clay printers available for use. Participants will have access to the printers after the 3rd session has been completed and will have (40) included practice hours outside of the workshop sessions. The 3D printers may be utilized by participants until December 13th. Participants may create up to (15) pieces (max 11" in any direction).
Weekend 1 (Oct 12th & 13th): Participants will be introduced to 3D modeling software and guided through the steps to create their designs. The fundamentals of the software will be learned such as navigating the interface and how to create simple shapes. Hands-on instruction with tips and tricks for refining shapes and ensuring their models are 3D-printable will be provided throughout these sessions.
Weekend 2 (Oct 19th & 20th): A comprehensive overview of the 3D clay printers will be given including loading clay, trouble-shooting, and preparing the printers for use. Participants will print the designs they created in Weekend 1. Hands-on instruction will be provided throughout these sessions.
Note: The software that you'll learn is Rhino and Clayon. If you are already well-versed in these softwares, you're welcome to register and attend only Weekend 2 and bring your ready-to-print designs. If you have no experience with these softwares, then you must register and attend both Weekend 1 and Weekend 2.
Please bring your laptop for the workshop. An email containing software download links and other need-to-know information will be sent to you before the workshop.
