During this two-day workshop led by Jonaya Kemper, students will learn an abridged history of African American ceramics and face vessels, while making their own vessels and learning various hand-building techniques. Participants will be able to underglaze and carve their pieces and they will be glazed with transparent glaze. Suitable for beginners.

A multidisciplinary artist and award winning game designer, Jonaya Kemper’s practice engages with play as an act of resistance and a key to liberation. Utilizing history, identity, and play as praxis, Jonaya explores how personal familial histories and traditional vessels can be reimagined for an afrofuturist reckoning

For cancellations made fewer than 4 full days, but more than 24 hours before the start time, a 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be issued. We cannot provide refunds or credits for cancellations or rescheduling requests made fewer than 24 hours before the start time of class, if you miss your class, or arrive too late to participate.
