Build on your ceramic construction skills or create new ones in this all-level slab building class. In this class, you will learn how to roll slabs using a slab roller and rolling pin, tips to prevent slumping and warping, different techniques for joining slabs, how to glaze large pieces using our spray booth, and more. From building small boxes to creating side tables, bring your ideas, and your teacher, Kristen will help you bring them to life.
Kristen is a multi-media and ceramic artist with over 10 years of experience in clay. She graduated from Cal State Long Beach with a BFA in ceramics and has worked at multiple ceramic studios creating slab-built work while also creating experimental hand-built ceramics in her home studio. She currently works at Still Life Ceramic Studios as a Beginning Wheel Instructor and lab tech.
We recommend having at least two months of handbuilding experience before taking this class; this could mean taking Beginning Handbuilding twice, or one month of Beginning Handbuilding plus one month of independent practice as a member.
Classes meet once a week for 2 hour sessions, with open studio time daily for you to practice on your own.
