Description

This intensive 8-week course is designed to strengthen participants' skills in wheel throwing, handbuilding, and glazing through guided projects.

Taught by ceramic artist Jorge Jimenez Jr., the first half of the course (Weeks 1–3) will focus on wheel throwing, culminating in a glaze application lesson. The second half (Weeks 5–8) will shift to handbuilding, exploring different forms and another glaze technique. The class will meet for two hours each week for a total of eight sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own.

Students will have access to studio time outside of class meetings, along with two structured critique sessions to discuss completed works. Participants will develop a strong understanding of ceramic terminology, glaze chemistry, and the etiquette of constructive critique. The course will utilize Cone 10 firing for wheel-thrown pieces and Cone 5 for handbuilt projects.

See the class schedule below.

In addition to the weekly class meetings, we have open hours seven days a week for you to come in and work on your own.

Makeup classes are not available for missed sessions of this course, but many students use the open studio time to catch up outside of class if necessary.

Continuing students should bring their own clay, tools, and bats (we recommend at least four 12" bats). We have a supply shop at the studio where you can purchase these things if you need them. The course fee includes firing for up to 20 pieces*.

*Piece limit is subject to change based on the dimensions of student work
