Sculpt yourself, a friend, or a foe. In this workshop, instructor Camila Lim-Hing will be covering the basics of building a bust. Using slab-building methods, participants will learn basic anatomy and sculpting techniques in this handbuilding-focused workshop open to all levels. If you’ve wanted to try sculpting faces, this is a great foundational workshop to start with!
This workshop is open to all skill levels and ideal for students who have basic handbuilding experience.

Learn the basics of sculpting faces through this introductory workshop. Using handbuilding methods focused on soft-slab construction, artist-instructor Camila Lim-Hing will guide participants on the construction, surface design, and basics of making a hollow clay bust. Participants will learn how to build personality and emotion into their forms through features, texture, and subtle shaping techniques. This workshop is open to all skill levels; explore the possibilities of sculpting the human form and refine your handbuilding skills!

Cone 5 clay to create a bust under 12” in any direction

Various handbuilding tools

Brushes and a range of underglaze colors for use during the workshop

Bisque firing for your piece from the workshop; available for pickup approx. 4 weeks after the workshop date

Camila Lim-Hing is a ceramic artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Camila’s work draws inspiration from their multicultural background and the vivid memories of her childhood in Jamaica and South Florida. Her Chinese and Hispanic heritage infuse her creations with a blend of cultural influences that enrich her artistic vision. See more of Camila’s work here.
Potters of all skill levels from beginning to advanced are welcome in this class. You should have enough experience to make pieces on your own so that you have items to glaze during class. If you've completed a Beginning Wheel or Beginning Handbuilding course, this is a great next step.

Cancellations made 4 or more days before the start of the class will be refunded. A 50% refund or 50% credit toward another class or workshop will be given for cancellations made fewer than 4 full days before the start date.
Our classes are intended for adults. Teens 14 and older are welcome if accompanied by a parent. If you have a child under 14 interested in taking a class, please contact us before enrolling.
