August Continuing Wheel: Altered Forms

Regular price$225.00

Learn what else is possible on the potter's wheel and refine the skills you learned in Beginning Wheel. This class is recommended for advanced beginners and intermediate level potters who feel comfortable with the throwing up to 2.5 lbs on the wheel; see below for more information. This is a condensed month-long class which will meet for two hours each week for a total of four sessions, with open studio time every day for you to practice on your own. See the class schedule below. This course will focus on changes and alterations that can be made both on and off the wheel.

Location: This class will be held at our new Downtown studio:  588 Mateo St Los Angeles, CA 90013

Each class will focus on one category of object or skill, outlined below:

Week 1: Throwing base forms, making attachments and alterations overview
Week 2: Piercing and Cutting
Week 3: Sculpting Faces from Cylinders
Week 4: Finishing Touches + Glazing Review

To get the most out of this class, you should feel comfortable with all of the steps and processes you learned in the four week Beginning Wheel course, and can somewhat reliably wedge, center, and throw 2.5-3 lbs of clay. Typically, students take Beginning Wheel twice before taking a Continuing Wheel course.

In addition to the weekly class meetings, we have open hours seven days a week for you to come in and work on your own.

Continuing Wheel students should bring their own clay, tools, and bats (we recommend at least four 12" bats). We have a supply shop at the studio where you can purchase these things if you need them. The course fee includes firing for up to 15 pieces and use of studio recycled clay.
