Class Details

Class meets once a week for three hours, from 6-9pm on Thursdays starting October 16th. There will be 5 class meetings over 6 weeks, with a break on the week of November 13th. Students will have studio access throughout the duration of the course on Tuesdays and Thursdays during our open hours (11am-7pm) outside of class time.

We strongly advise you to make sure you’ll be able to attend all class sessions before signing up. While makeup classes are not offered for this course, additional studio time may be arranged.

Course fee includes: 75 lbs of red sculpture clay per student from Laguna Clay, a variety of slips, oxides, and glazes to work with, and one firing to cone 04 for your work.  Additional firing can be arranged at a discounted rate with the studio if you would like to fire your piece to a higher temperature after the class has ended.

Students will spend the duration of the course working on a singular complex sculpture, and the work must not exceed 30”x20” in any direction. Student work cannot exceed the weight of 75 lbs.

The class will focus on how to successfully build large scale sculptures and also explore surface treatments beyond glazing. You will learn how to work with the clay in its various drying stages to achieve your desired aesthetic and  explore cold work (post-fire) techniques to enhance, alter or repair aspects of your sculpture.

Student work will not be fired until after the course has completed in order to provide ample time for the pieces to settle and dry. Students can expect their work to be slowly dried throughout the month of December, and the work will be available for pickup prior to February 10th, 2026.
